Real Finance: Bringing finance in from the cold
After our client worked with Real People it became clear they needed help with the finance side of things as well.
The problem was that the Financial Director was bogged down in day-to-day financial questions because of staff shortages. At the same time, the organisation was growing faster than anticipated so the FD had no time for forward planning.
Finance was working in isolation from the rest of the organisation.
We were asked to assess the capacity and competency of the existing finance team to handle current responsibilities and as an outcome of the organisation’s plans for the future.
Our consultancy covered:
- Reviewing the organisation’s structure
- Looking at job descriptions and competencies
- Examining the relationship between finance and other departments
- Reviewing relationships with outside organisations
- Checking financial control processes and procedures.
Over three days we interviewed staff, reviewed documentation and wrote a detailed report outlining an interim and final structure for finance.
When we completed our work, the FD said
‘I’m impressed you could achieve so much in just three days. I’m far more comfortable with the way finance now works with the rest of the organisation.’
